Black Mesa is the highest point in Oklahoma at 4,973 feet (USGS), standing just 27 feet below an even 5,000 feet. By stacking rocks and soil over the mesa, we can increase the summit elevation of Black Mesa to 5,000 feet. The current summit is also relatively flat. By increasing the height of the summit into a sharp peak, the summit will become much more dramatic and visually impressive. Visitors will also have better views from a top the new summit.

The estimated amount of material necessary to raise the summit 27 feet is about 1,137 cubic yards of rock and soil. This endeavor would cost tax payers an estimated an estimated $60,000 but would increase the appeal and visitation to Black Mesa with an estimated economic return of about $280,000 in the first year.
