Budget cuts to post-secondary institutions have detrimental effects beyond just the education system. The cuts implemented by the current UCP government have lead to increased tuition prices and increased interest rates for student loans and have affected staff as well with many staff members facing the threat of job losses. These cuts will make our universities less competitive on the world stage and more of our young students will be driven to pursue post-secondary education elsewhere which will impact Alberta's economic growth as we'll lose potential contributors to the economy to other provinces. It's clear that investing in post-secondary education not only benefits the education system, but the province as a whole. We need to see increased funding for post-secondary institutions again to not only reduce the burden placed on students and staff, but also to help bolster the education system's contributions to the economy.
