Why this petition matters

IN ORDER TO PROTECT CANADIANS AGAINST IMPAIRED DRIVING, CONSEQUENCES NEED TO CHANGE.
The consequences of impaired driving in Ottawa, Ontario are very minimal and not reflective of its dangers.

For every day that goes by, 4 Canadian citizens are killed while 175 are injured due to impaired driving. As of March 2022, police have reported that there has been a 25% increase in impaired driving charges in Ottawa. There have been 146 charges in Ottawa this year.

The maximum imprisonment time for impaired driving-related deaths is ten years. A first-time offense in Ottawa is a 3-day license suspension and a $250 fine. For something that can kill, these numbers are too low. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. We need to prevent impaired driving as much as possible and protect Canadians from its endangerment of it. Driving impaired should be treated more seriously than it is now.

Impaired driving is dangerous and takes the lives of many innocents. We need change; we Ottawa citizens can make a difference. By signing this petition, you are helping us get the attention of Jim Watson, who we will get to advocate for the increase of impaired driving consequences.

By signing this petition, you are helping prevent the loss of loved ones; our children, women, men, and elders can rest assured that they will get their justice.
