Include Worlds Cheerleading as an Elite Amature Sports League in Ontario
In Support of our Elite Cheerleading Athletes
We are asking to be designated as an Elite Amature Sports League under new Ontario restrictions.
Fostering the growth of Elite sports within Ontario IS Essential. This involves nurturing an elite training environment and competition structure for all participants.
The uncertainty surrounding the status of our elite athletes in this Province has been further exacerbated by rising mental health concerns and a growing inability to retain talented athletes in the Ontario cheerleading system.
Ontario currently has 15+ Worlds teams that have earned bids to the cheerleading world championships and more are poised to do so in the coming months. As well, as our many Ontario athletes that have been granted positions to represent Canada in the ICU World Championships with eyes on the Olympics as cheerleading has been granted sport status from the IOC.
Cheerleading in Ontario has been diligent in abiding by ALL health and safety protocols set out by the province for the last 2 years providing a safe training environment for everyone.
We ask that all Athletes, Coaches, Administration, Provincial and National Organizations, and Government Officials work with us to find a solution so that we can continue to train and successfully complete our season.
We need to get as many signatures from those who support cheerleading's elite worlds athletes on this petition as quickly as possible to let the Provincial Government know about the athletes currently not included in their restrictions.
