Include Racket Sports in new membership packages at Abbeycroft Leisure

We write on behalf of users of racket sports facilities at the Abbeycroft Leisure Centre in Newmarket. We find it extremely alarming and unfair that the new Lifestyle Memberships do not include racket sports. Many of us take out memberships because racket sports are included alongside the gym, classes or swimming.  Many of us are only interested in racket sports. Of course, memberships confer the same benefits on those who do not partake in racket sports.

We therefore feel that racket sport players are being discriminated against for no clear or apparent reason and this can only act as a dis-incentive to continue to use the facility.  Squash currently flourishes at the Newmarket Leisure Centre. This success has been largely due to the activities of the members. We run the local league with over 30 participants and field two teams that represent Newmarket in the Cambridgeshire Leagues.  Squash players therefore feel particularly aggrieved that their sport is being singled out for what is seen as unfair treatment with regard to their membership.

We wish to make strong representation that the terms of the new Lifestyle Membership be urgently reviewed to include racket sports for the same price as for other activities. We know that fellow squash players at Haverhill feel the same way and many users of other facilities under the Abbeycroft Leisure banner will have similar misgivings about the new arrangements.

We ask you to kindly reconsider Lifestyle Memberships so that racket sport players can receive equal benefits to those partaking in other activities at the Abbeycroft Leisure facilities.
