My baby was diagnosed with Complete Heart Block at 20 weeks gestation. A blood test detected that I carry anti-ro antibodies. They can pass through the placenta in pregnancy and cause this condition. If they had been detected in the prescreening tests at 6 weeks, and medication provided by 10 weeks, research has shown that the risk of this occurring would have been significantly reduced. My baby was delivered by a csection and required surgery the day after he was born and had a pacemaker fitted. This was an extremely difficult time which could have potentially been prevented. This has happened to so many people and I would like to help prevent it happening again.
