While our country is very much divided, Kentucky Country Day does not need to be. By showing Inauguration Day, whether on the TVs throughout the school, or having a half-day (the Inauguration starts at 11:30, right before highschooler's last class prior to lunch), or even taking the entire day to process and see who takes part in this crucial process in our democracy, you (the administrators) would be allowing your students to grow as people, and expand their knowledge of our nation. I hope that you will consider one of the three options listed above, and if not, I present another option: having the teachers decide whether to show it separately and letting them know that this is an option. I have corresponded with many teachers throughout the school, and they all have one thing in common: whether an English, History or Fine Arts teacher, they all think having students watch the Inauguration is important. Our day off for the football game promoted school spirit-- but the Inauguration incorporates many school subjects into its proceedings, and furthers our education. Please take the time to consider.
