At least 15 passengers died on spot due to cylinder explosion in a passenger coach travelling from Peshawar to Dera Ismail Khan.

Some of the major reasons are following:

. Most of the passenger coaches, wagons and buses (even Daewoo), mostly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province area, are worn out, are too old and are not not in standard conditions.

. Members of public do raise complaints but relevant officials in Provincial Transport Department, Traffic Police and National Highway Authority pay no heed.

. Transport businesses develop illegal relations and bribe the relevant officials and therefore check and balance is a mission impossible.

. Giving bribes to the authority to evade laws is a routine

. The police is not cooperative in this regard and they mostly arrive late.

. As per health and safety standards CNG Kits must be stable and safe; however, it is not so when it comes to passenger vehicles and taxis. They use substandard and dangerous CNG storage kits. Authorities must check them periodically.

. Most of the drivers are untrained and do not hold driving licenses.

. Due to ignorance of legal norms and a blind eye from government authorities, there are also ample chances of using public transport for smuggling goods and for other unfair practices.

. Violations of labor laws are common in businesses involved in transportation. There is no surety of minimum wages.
The owners of transport businesses must be penalized for such malpractices.

. The individuals (businessmen and government officials) who are responsible for such ignorance must be apprehended.

It is requested to kindly address the anomalies so that sanctity of public-exchequer is guaranteed and precious lives are saved later.
