Improving Counselling Services at Milton Keynes College (Bletchley Campus)

As students of Milton Keynes College, we feel as though the counselling services at the Bletchley Campus are not at all sufficient and counselling staff are in serious short supply. This not only effects how well the counselling is run, but how the students are to benefit from the help that they are seeking. Speaking on behalf of many students on the Level 3 Art and Design course, we believe that something desperately needs to change for the college to progress. We have recently been informed that there is only a singular counsellor in charge of dealing with the support and guidance of the Art and Design students, which due to the number of students enrolled onto this course, we feel that it is totally unacceptable and inappropriate as our needs are not being met. The message on the door in which the counselling sessions are held reads "Looking for a counsellor? Sadly there is currently no-one available from the counselling team". Whilst there are other services demonstrated with this note, we feel as though students should have more support within their place of study, where they feel most comfortable. We are campaigning to improve these services for all courses in the college, particularly by requesting for Milton Keynes College to employ more members of staff for these services, as every student has the right to on-campus counselling sessions if they would like them.
If you believe something more can be done for the college to improve the counselling services, and that more members of staff need to be employed for them, please sign this petition. We are in desperate need of change, and spreading mental health awareness is so important to us.
“No-one available” is just not good enough.
