Improved Water Conservation in South Jordan

Improved Water Conservation in South Jordan
Why this petition matters
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, almost all of Utah is considered in at least a severe drought while nearly half of Utah is listed in an extreme drought. This is a problem that we have seen multiple times over the last 20 years. Many people throughout the state need water for many different things; farmers need water to grow crops, those who enjoy lakes/reservoirs need water to continue to enjoy nature, and people all throughout the state need water to drink. Our poor water usage is leading to problems affecting all people, and solving these problems permanently isn't realistic, but we can take steps to improve our circumstances. The government can step in by incentivizing xeriscape, penalizing excessive water usage, putting nice rock and plant areas in place of small grassy areas, and creating drought resistant plans. If we can get the government to see how important this issue is to the citizens, maybe steps like these will be taken and we can see growth and improvement in water conservation.
