This document highlights the improvements that we feel can be made to the Biomedical Sciences Teaching Organisation, including marking, tutorials and student liaison.
We strongly believe these areas of the programme are to be improved:
Mark schemes for In-course Assessments
o Clearer indication of the format of the assessment
o What areas of the assessment are subjective to the marker – whether their personal opinion will affect marks
o Mark assessments with at least 2 markers so that marks are more objective
O Make detailed completion of Turnitin feedback compulsory
o Ensure that exam questions are proof read to prevent disruption
o When we have been told that disruption during an exam will be taken into account, how this would be done was not specified.
o Mark exams with at least 2 markers so that marks are more objective
o Create and share model answers to go through in tutorials
o Deadlines about uploading marks, feedback and sign ups on Learn are not always upheld, and student deadlines should be adjusted accordingly if this is to happen
o Give structured feedback on assessments in tutorials
o Give a reason or example of how to improve mistakes rather than a generic comment
o Explain why that grade was given by providing a mark scheme
Preparation for In-Course Assessment
o Allow formative marked mocks of Assessments for practice
o Provide more information on how to review articles and papers by giving students more optional analysis to do on Learn
We feel if these measures are taken, then students in the BMTO will have a much more pleasant experience on their course. PLEASE SIGN IF YOU AGREE!
