Why this petition matters

2 weeks ago my son was struck by a vehicle on his way home from school on Route 110, Amityville. The driver stopped, 911 was called, and my son was transported to the hospital by ambulance. His injuries will heal, but this incident shines a light on the imminent dangers to our children on Route 110.

I am respectfully asking for your support to increase safety features along Route 110 to include any or all of the following:

  1. A Crossing Guard.
  2. Flashing lights where on/off ramps meet Route 110.
  3. The installation of Digital Radar Signs which show the driver's speed.
  4. Increased signage indicating the school speed zone.

Between The Edmund W. Miles Middle School and Dixon Avenue there is a very busy cloverleaf interchange in which there are 2 off ramps and 2 on ramps on each side of Route 110 for a total of 8 dangerous, high traffic intersections.

Students as young as 11 years old (6th grade) are expected to safely navigate through these intersections to get to and from school each day. The goal is gather sufficient support so that our local elected officials will see the importance of increasing safety features surrounding The  Edmund W. Miles Middle School.

Thank you
