At the University of Michigan, students have come from a variety of different countries in order to receive a quality education and/or to improve their livelihoods, as well as those of their families. It is unfair that these students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, are not receiving the adequate financial support they deserve due to their citizenship status. Low-income immigrant students deserve the same amount of financial aid coverage as other low-income students who are citizens or who have been naturalized. This is why we are asking for the University of Michigan to remove the citizenship requirement for their scholarships and other forms of financial aid.
