Main Street is part of State Route 103 and therefore falls under the jurisdiction of ODOT, not The Village of Bluffton, to add or remove traffic lights.
This intersection has become very dangerous since ODOT took the traffic light down. My understanding is that ODOT conducted their traffic study during the summer, when there was no school traffic. Not only is it dangerous for people trying to cross the street, many drivers treat the existing 2-way stop as a 4-way stop. Many times, after I have stopped for the sign and proceeded into the intersection, a driver who has stopped for the other sign has turned right in front of me. I have experienced several near miss collisions. Removing some parking spaces has not improved the visibility from College Avenue and Main Street to the North. No amount of signage is going to solve the issue. God forbid that a child gets hit because ODOT refuses to replace the traffic light. Please, for the safety of our children, put the traffic light back in place. If not a traffic light, then make it a 4-way stop.
The area in front of the theater has also become very dangerous. Adults and children walk straight across from the parking lot to the theater without any regard for traffic.

I am signing because a downtown needs to be safe for pedestrian and bike traffic in order to entice commerce to it.

I own two downtown businesses and am concerned about the safety of our consumers - many of whom are children.

This has been a dangerous intersection for years--we need to restore a traffic light or 4-way stop.

This is a vey busy intersection. Why put our children at risk. Don't wait until someone gets hurt or killed to make changes.

I support the cause and I would like to see traffic signals installed!
But is this really something that we should be asking our local officials and administrators, as Kirk Slusher has suggested, or is he steering us on a loop? (I received the same email that has been linked above.)

This corner has been extra dangerous ever since the stop light was removed. School kids are constantly walking down the street for gym class, and after school.

This is a dangerous intersection for our kids to "try to" cross.
