Improve College Readiness & Resources for 1st Generation College Students
This petition had 35 supporters
An educated population is one of the most important components of a vital, healthy region and it is a long term indicator of region’s quality of life, workforce preparedness and economic and educational potential. The U.S. loses too many of its children in the education pipeline before they get a college degree. Students often lack the support systems they need to successfully transition to college. Access to higher education remains a challenge for many students who face financial needs and informational barriers. Students who express college aspirations early in high school may find their college’s plans falter if they do not take the necessary steps to prepare for and enter college. Parent Prompt supports efforts to implement innovative and collaborative resources and efforts that bolster support services to improve college readiness rates. Currently, organizations like GEAR Up, Project Discovery, and College Access Foundation are available for students, but it is an after school activity. This petition is designed to prompt the DOE to add a college admissions elective class be added to the curriculum for high school seniors who choose to pursue college.
