The traffic on Grove Road is becoming increasingly dangerous. Cars drive consistently well over the speed limit, creating a hazardous environment for both residents and pedestrians. This is especially concerning as the road is in close proximity to local schools, nurseries, and popular footpaths, with one of the pathways extremely narrow in places putting pedestrians dangerously close to oncoming speeding vehicles. The Lapwing development will also shortly add even more traffic to the local roads, increasing the volume of vehicles using Grove Road that will inevitably add to the speeding statistics. Without urgent implementation of traffic calming measures, we face a genuine risk to both injury and life.

Currently, Grove Road's layout and lack of protective measures leave our community vulnerable. Over the period of over a year, a local group in the community have on many occasions gathered speed data along the road, and established a consistent blatant disregard for the speed limit, with cars regularly exceeding the speed limit by way over 10-20mph - and very often even more. Statistics on speeding-related accidents highlight a pressing need for intervention. According to UK traffic safety reports, areas with implemented traffic calming measures see a reduction in speed-related incidents by up to 40%. It is evident that without proper control and regulation, the safety of all road users, including - but not limited to - children, the elderly, walkers, animals, and young families, remains compromised.
