Sexual Assault (SA) is a far worse issue in Tri-Cities than what is talked about. SA impacts everyone, as a victim, friend of a victim, or as an assaulter. The safety of our youth and community as a whole starts with uncomfortable conversations addressing consent and accountability. Sexual assault should not be part of the high school experience (or any experience).

With summer coming up, there is plenty of time and opportunity for schools to start these conversations with students, parents, and staff at the start of the next school year. Talking about consent and boundaries in all grade levels is necessary and school wide discussions about prevention and support for victims are needed.

Sexual assault awareness should not stop at a poster in the hallway. Change is needed.
