Implement Mount Allison's revised Sexualized Violence Prevention Policy NOW
Why this petition matters

We, the students (current and alumni), faculty, and staff at Mount Allison University, have shown our commitment to creating a safer campus, and safer university experience in regard to sexualized violence. We have educated ourselves on the “Red Zone” - the first two months of the College/University school year when half of all the annual reported cases of sexualized violence occur. We have engaged with bystander and workplace harassment training, we have volunteered on committees, and we have dedicated time to help in the Safer Zone during events. We hold ourselves accountable and we continue to do our part in cultivating a culture of consent at Mount A.
We are doing our part. Now, we ask that the President, Provost, VP International and Student Affairs, and Board of Regents follow up with their own commitments to the Mount Allison community by ensuring that Policy 1006 on sexualized violence gets immediately shepherded into implementation.
The current Sexualized Violence Prevention Policy that Mount Allison has, is severely outdated, and inadequately addresses the needs and wants of the University Community at this time. For the last several months, a revised and polished policy that was created by an incredible group of volunteers, led by Dr. Tasia Alexopoulos, has been collecting digital dust in the inboxes of those in the highest positions of power.
We need this new policy to be officialized, now, before survivors of sexualized violence who attempt to come forward or try to access services find themselves discouraged by the inadequate and outdated intermediary policy. No matter what step of the process the policy is currently in, it is not close enough to the end of the line.
