I am one of many who suffer from a phobia known as emetophobia, an intense fear of vomiting. This fear can be triggered by unexpected scenes in movies where characters vomit, causing panic and distress. This is not a rare condition; it's estimated that 6-7% of women and 1.7-3.1% of men suffer from emetophobia (David Veale, 2015). Despite this significant portion of the population being affected, there are currently no regulations requiring warnings for such scenes.

The film industry has made strides in providing content warnings for sensitive topics like violence or sexual assault to protect viewers who may be adversely affected by such content. However, there is a glaring omission when it comes to vomit scenes which can trigger severe reactions among those with emetophobia.

This petition calls on movie producers and rating agencies to implement mandatory warnings for vomit scenes in films. Just as other triggers are given due consideration and forewarning, so too should this common phobia be acknowledged and addressed.
