Hello,

We are Zimo (Liu) and Sohana (Dhinsa), we are both 12 years old. We are petitioning for the change in consequences across the United Kingdom for Sexual Harassment at school. The reason we believe strongly in this is because for a few years we’ve waited for somebody to try and make a change in the rules. Unfortunately, nothing has happened yet and we feel like we need to step up and represent the girls in the UK.

Over the past few years, there has been cases of sexual harassment at school. We have noticed the lack of consequences for this topic, there are many girls globally who’ve noticed but are afraid to talk about it as they feel uncomfortable. Many girls our age have been sexually harassed and have came to feel that it’s been normalised by society, and that females should have to endure the harassment. As females, we understand the seriousness of this situation as a body is left in the hands of ourselves to take care of and we feel like we have lost our dignity if we’ve let it be mistreated by others.

Sadly, there has never been a good enough response or consequence for these acts. We know from experience that warnings are issued and behavior points. However, this doesn’t matter as many neglect the minor consequences and continue to sexually harass. Due to this, we believe that more effective consequences should be implemented.

According to students’ globally it has become the ‘norm’ for girls to be harassed (sexually). No matter the complaints no changes have been made. Many are pressured not to say anything by who they were assaulted by, the school or family, this is an act of protecting their image. Some students have mentioned how they were not taken seriously as either the perpetrator was well known or liked or that they are hated on and many more.

Not any country in the world (yet) can say that they achieved gender equality. All we are here to do is to give you a choice. .

“It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of oppositing ideals” Emma Watson 2014 HeForShe Campaign .

“ If you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”  “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” Nelson Mandela .

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”

Winston Churchill.

Though the actions may be ‘minor’ they are still very effective emotionally and physically. Some boys have created group chats about girls commenting on their features and overall appearance (they have rated them). Situations like these have affected the victims hard and the consequence were non-existent)

Some people might say that school is a brilliant place to be, a safe place. On the other hand, others think the opposite, so we (all as humans) must unite as one to make this condition of education better for the generations yet to come…

We hope you sign to help girls in the UK, and this may help to solve the situation globally! We do hope someday we’ll have the privilege of being able to speak in front of Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP and protest for this cause.

We hope you will sign for the change!

Thanks From,

Zimo Liu and Sohana Dhinsa :).
