Implement Comprehensive Sex Education to Prevent Teenage Pregnancy

The Issue

I am writing this petition on behalf of someone  I know who is currently six months pregnant. She's just a teenager and the boy who impregnated her has refused to take responsibility, leaving her alone in this challenging situation. This is not an isolated case - many teenagers around the world are facing similar predicaments due to lack of proper sex education.

According to the World Health Organization, about 16 million girls aged 15-19 years and some 1 million girls under 15 years of age give birth every year—most in low- and middle-income countries (WHO). These young mothers face higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth, including life-threatening conditions like eclampsia and premature birth.

Educating our youth about sexual health can significantly reduce these numbers. Comprehensive sex education includes information on contraception methods, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), consent, healthy relationships, decision-making skills among others. It empowers young people with knowledge that can prevent unplanned pregnancies and protect their overall health.

We urge policymakers at all levels of government to implement comprehensive sex education in schools nationwide. By doing so we can equip our youth with the necessary knowledge they need for their sexual health decisions thus preventing teenage pregnancies.

Please sign this petition if you believe that every teenager deserves access to comprehensive sex education for a healthier future.
