Canada should allow non-citizens of Ukraine to qualify for temporary refuge
We are calling on the the Canadian government to allow ALL Ukrainians (citizens and those with temporary status) to seek safe haven here.
Canada is allowing Ukrainian nationals who have fled Russian aggression to come to Canada temporarily for a period of two years, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said last week.
But Fraser's office says that, for now, the program is only open to Ukrainian citizens.
Non-citizens of Ukraine will still be given priority status if they apply to come to Canada through other immigration streams. A large percentage of these are racialized people who have been restricted from leaving the country. There is documented rampant racism and segregation at the border.
Canada must allow anyone fleeing this war to come here - regardless of race or ethnicity!
