Mahdi, his wife Galyna, and their 4 yr old child, Khorschid need your help. A mixed-race couple, Mahdi being Iranian and Galyna being an ethnically Russian Ukranian, Mahdi and his family have experienced discrimination, harassment and even the risk of violence in Ukraine where they lived before coming to Canada. In Ukraine, the family experienced discrimination in their efforts to find housing and work.
Galyna was let go from a position as a teacher and unemployed for the greater part of the last 10 yrs. Currently, the family would not be safe given the present war between Russia and Ukraine since, as ethnic Russians and Russian speaking family, they may be perceived as Russian supporters and targeted accordingly. In Iran, Mahdi would be at risk of death as an apostate since he and his wife are devout Catholics and raising their child in same.
In Canada, however: Galyna, on the other hand, is pregnant with the couple's second child, which the ongoing stress of their immigration circumstances risks
effecting negatively as the couple has had a miscarriage in recent years; the family is safe, well established in both the Iranian and Russian/Ukranian communities in Toronto, where young Khorschid has the opportunity to be raised in both cultures and languages; she would be deprived of this opportunity in Ukraine given the rampant discrimination and harassment against foreigners that
have driven out most Iranians like Mahdi and his friends, and would be denied same in Iran due to lack of presence of Ukrainians/Russians; Mahdi is an established musician holding concerts with various local and foreign artists as
well as receiving numerous awards and achievements with respect to same; Mahdi is also employed full-time earning a sufficient living to provide for his family's needs such that they have never been dependent on social services; and
the family can practice their chosen faith freely and without fear of retaliation or risk to their life.
The undersigned support this family's application for permanent residence on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds."
