The new 2021 one-off immigration policy should be more inclusive!
The 2021 one-off immigration policy seems to exclude and be going to reject so many people with genuine reasons. Some of them have been staying in NZ for more than 821 days in the last three years, but arrived later than 29 Sep 2018; some of them have been here for more than 3 years, but are currently holding other types of visa; and, some of them are staying off-shore and cannot come back at the moment due to the COVID-19.
In Chinese community, we take this good gesture of NZ government as "the amnesty". However, is it really an amnesty, if it excludes so many hard-working yet broken-hearted ones who truly love this country, with a decent education background, but somehow don't fully qualify these strict standards?
I am hereby calling on the government to expand the eligibility for their new immigration policy in the following ways:
1. To qualify those who have lived in NZ for more than 821 day since 29/09/2018, but arrived later than that day.
2. To qualify part-time workers for the $27/hour requirement.
3. To qualify off-shore work visa holders, and those who could have been granted open work visa after study but failed to do so because they were not able to come back to NZ due to the COVID-19.
4. To consider a wider range of population, including on-shore partner work visa holders, and on-shore student visa holders who: 1) could have been granted work visa but were negatively impacted by the COVID-19; 2) used to have a valid work visa; 3) will get a valid work visa by the end of 2021.
5. To review the applications case by case, and take into account additional supporting materials (i.e supporting letter, proof of contribution to the community, reference, etc.) although certain criteria are not met.
