I know a wonderful young British couple who have just been told they have to leave Australia. They became very close to our family while working on my brother's dairy farm. They stayed there for 4 months to help out with the milking twice a day - didn't mind hard work and then after the 4 months they continued their travels for some time and then arranged to surprise my brother on their way north from Sydney and stayed and helped for another month. They have been working in Sydney and I was lucky to catch up with them a couple of months ago when I was visiting there. They spoke then about the difficulty of getting sponsorship to stay in Australia but they had good jobs and a flat to live in and were very happy and thought it would work out. The young woman who is now working in recruitment cannot understand why there are so many unemployed allowed to stay here but they have very good English, are very well dressed when not milking cows and they are not allowed to stay. They have even spoken to an Indian who has been a permanent resident for 3 years, didn't work and when they asked if he was going to try and get citizenship his response was 'no because then I'll have to vote and I don't care about the politics in this country and if I don't vote I'd get fined".
My friend was completely gobsmacked by that response when they have the qualifications and have good full time work but are being told they have to leave the country in a couple of weeks.
I am a mature woman in my 60s, find a lot of the younger generation are not very decent people, do not respect elders etc but this couple are both lovely people to know and a credit to any country. Please support my attempts to get immigration to allow them to stay.
