Hipolito Galan Mancillas – or "Papi" to his young grandkids – is a longtime Texan employer, active church member, loving father and grandparent, and sole breadwinner for our family. I am a DACA student recipient, my 3 brothers are U.S. citizens, and our father is the glue that holds our family together. We along with my mother and my children desperately need him to stay home with us in the beautiful life we have here.
On January 8th, Hipolito is scheduled to meet with ICE – at which point he has the opportunity to turn in paperwork for a Cancellation of Removal and prove public support for keeping him here with his family. Sign this petition to help Hipolito defend his case to remain in the U.S.!
Hipolito came to the United States in March 1997, at the age of 26 in search of a better, safer future for himself and his family. He was alone in this country and worked hard to obtain a stable job and safe home. He provided for me and my mother, whom he remorsefully had to leave back in Mexico. Once Hipolito gained employment and secured housing however, our little family was reunited as he brought us to live with him in the USA, in the fall of 1999. Hipolito has since worked hard for us and created the life we dreamed of, thanks be to God. He co-owns a business where he employs over 50 workers; he provides his children a safe home and the opportunity to advance our education, and gives us his endless love and support.
Hipolito lives an exemplary life, giving to his community and ensuring his family is well taken care of. Please, sign this petition to keep my father in the United States with our family!
Hipolito was not able to go back to school to continue his education but he used every resource at his reach to obtain higher education. Whatever we learned he learned with us, he read our books, helped with our homework, spent countless hours studying and researching and following lesson plans – not only to help us with school work, but also to increase his own knowledge. He works hard, pays taxes, owns his home and vehicles, and is a regular volunteer alongside his wife at our church in Waco, TX. Despite a setback in 2001, when he was arrested for a DUI and successfully completed probation, Hipolito has become heavily involved in his church and community.
It has been 17 years since he has even visited his native country. But because of a 17-year-old nonviolent offense, my dad Hipolito could be deported back to Mexico after all the hard work he’s invested in our family and community. If we do not act NOW, our family will be ripped apart. I cannot fathom the pain my brothers, my mom, my dad, my children, and I would endure if that were to happen. We have so many hopes and dreams rooted here in Waco.
Everyone deserves a second chance. Sign and share this petition now to support our family and #KeepHipolitoHome. Thank you for your support!!
- Mely Galan, Hipolito's daughter
