As organizations, advocates, and loved ones of people held in immigrant detention, we are calling on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release the people being held at Hudson County Correctional Center in New Jersey.

As a result of the tireless work of immigration rights organizers, as well as the sacrifices and advocacy of detained immigrants themselves, counties in New Jersey are finally beginning to end their collaboration with ICE. Hudson County is the latest to follow suit, and has declared that they will no longer allow ICE to hold immigrants in its main jail as of November 1, 2021.

However, now that Hudson County will no longer be detaining immigrants, we do not simply want to see our imprisoned loved ones shuffled around and transferred to other jails and detention centers – especially in the middle of a pandemic that has disproportionately impacted imprisoned people. We have seen the brutality, the horrific conditions, and treatment that our community members are subjected to in ICE custody.

Approximately 34 people are currently in Hudson County detention. They have been given only 10 days to submit requests for release before being transferred. To make matters worse, ICE's process for reviewing release requests is abysmal, and lacks any transparency, justification for decisions, or even an opportunity to appeal. This is absolutely unacceptable, and we will stop at nothing short of getting our community members free.

It is well within ICE’s discretion to release people back into their communities where they belong.

Join us in raising our voices to demand that our people be freed!
