Immediate transfers of trans women to female facilities.

Immediate transfers of trans women to female facilities.
Why this petition matters

Trans women experience the daily gauntlets of psychological, physical and emotional harm when housed in cis male prisons A recent study indicates that there are 250-400 trans people in NSW Correctional facilities.
Chairperson of the NSW Trans and Gender Diverse Criminal Justice System Advisory Council, Kaz Zinnetti, said "these decisions often come down to whether a person has had any medical procedures."
"If you haven't had bottom surgery, or "gender-confirming surgery" — which comes at a massive cost some can't afford — then you can be placed in a prison based on the gender on your birth certificate."
"Even if you have breasts and identify as female, you can still go to a men's prison."
We know by these outdated stats and grassroots organising, this figure is grossly underrepresented. This is due to little to no commitment made by NSW Corrections to amend this policy. ACON's TransHub, researchers and its sub committee members rewrote and amended a draft of the 3.8 Transgender and Intersex Policy, that was submitted to NSW Corrections earlier this year for consideration and approval.
Solitary confinement is not an option According to the HRLC (Human rights Law Centre), The harmful effects of solitary confinement do not necessarily come to an end when a person is released. Solitary confinement can cause permanent harm, including long-term psychiatric effects, and an increased risk of early and preventable death.
WE DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE TRANSFERS OF TRANS WOMEN TO FEMALE FACILITIES.
