The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Stapleford and surrounding areas, call on Gary Godden, in his role as Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner, to take urgent and decisive action to address the ongoing and escalating problem of illegal off-road motorbike use in our community.

This petition will be formally presented to Councillor Gabrielle Bunn, in her role as Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, with the expectation that it is formally submitted to the Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the residents of Stapleford.

For far too long, residents have been subjected to the persistent nuisance and danger caused by individuals riding off-road motorbikes illegally on public roads, footpaths, parks, and green spaces across Stapleford. Despite repeated concerns raised over time, this behaviour continues unchecked.

These bikes are often unregistered, uninsured, and ridden without regard for the law or public safety. Riders frequently engage in dangerous activities such as excessive speeding, reckless manoeuvres, and wheelies in built-up areas.

This puts not only the riders themselves at serious risk of serious injury or death, but also endangers pedestrians, children, cyclists, and other road users.

A recent incident has highlighted the severity of this issue, where an illegal rider behaved recklessly on public roads and showed blatant disregard for the presence of the Police—seemingly aware that enforcement action would be limited. This has further eroded public confidence and increased concerns about safety within our community.

As Councillors representing Stapleford, Councillor Richard MacRae, Councillor Donna MacRae, Councillor Sue Paterson, Councillor Sarah Camplin, and Councillor John McGrath are united in calling for immediate and meaningful intervention.

We are urging the Police and Crime Commissioner to:

Prioritise enforcement against illegal off-road motorbike use in Stapleford

Provide additional police resources and targeted operations to tackle this issue

Support the use of appropriate enforcement powers and technology to identify and stop offenders

Work with local partners to prevent this behaviour and protect our community

This situation cannot be allowed to continue.

For too long this behaviour has been allowed to persist in Stapleford without sufficient action. Residents deserve to feel safe in their streets, parks, and public spaces.

By signing this petition, we are sending a clear message: enough is enough. We demand action now.
