Devon Williams started this petition to Illinois Governor and

The 4th of July is a National Holiday and is a representation of the independence of the United States first 13 colonies but it is not a representation of Africans or African Americans who were enslaved from 1619 to 1865, 246 years of slavery. After that proceeded oppression and racism during the Civil Rights Movement and due to that we lost two great black activists and leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. They will never get a chance to see the progress we have made with the first African American President Barack Obama, social justice, and equality that we as a society still strive to perfect. June 19, 1865 was the abolishment of slavery which means that in all actuality July 4, 1776 is the independence and freedom of the United States from British rule but not the independence of Afrcans and African Americans who were forced to an unknown land and put under so much pressure and stress that it was inevitable that diamonds were going to be created Oprah Winfrey, Sean Carter, Beyonce Carter, Lebron James, Serena Williams, Lorri Lighthouse and Simone Biles. We as African Americans have earned the right to have Juneteenth celebrated as a State Holiday in Illinois. Let's make this happen,  let's continue to progress.
