Reinstate IAMC (Illinois Association of Microboards & Cooperatives)

This petition made change with 332 supporters!

With a small annual budget of under $190,000 (tens of thousands less than the cost to serve one person in a State Operated Developmental Center), the IAMC changes lives.  We provide information, advocacy, support and training to assist persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families/friends to create alternatives to traditional services that allow the persons to live self-directed lives through the use of person-centered planning, community supports, and resource management.  Visit our website for more information about our program.

We are incredibly efficient with our funds - utilizing part-time staff (who often work near full-time) with no benefits, from home offices with low overhead, making use of telecommunications as much as possible to reduce travel.

We are the only organization in Illinois whose staff are ALL parents of or people with I/DD, ALL of whom are trained person-centered planning facilitators, and ALL of whom can train others to become person-centered planning facilitators.  Federal mandates require that ALL Medicaid program recipients have a person-centered plan.  We are uniquely qualified to help the state meet this mandate by training a cadre of facilitators to the meet the growing need.

IAMC is also uniquely qualified in the area of community inclusion and network-building. When people have person-centered plans and deeply connected personal networks, they live rich lives as full participants and contributors to their communities.  They rely less on traditional services  - relieving some of the fiscal responsibility on the state.

The IAMC provides vital guidance and technical support to families and individuals seeking person-centered, inclusive lives. Four microboards manage their own CILA homes maintaining community-based lives for individuals who might otherwise require far more costly institutional care.  Cooperatives in Illinois provide technical support to families and individuals including customized employment for individuals in the community.

Please support reinstatement of our program by signing this petition, sharing with your contacts, and telling your legislators how IAMC has impacted you.
