As many are aware, Jaden Krauss was shot on May 4th, 2019 by Jayden Smith and subsequently died on May 6th, 2019. If a proper investigation would have had time to be conducted before he plead, Jayden would have had different charges. He plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter before a gun was recovered (which never was), before autopsy reports were finished, and before more interviews could be conducted. Throughout the investigation it was uncovered that Jayden Smith was only worried about his own well-being. After helping drag a mortally wounded Jaden Krauss onto a porch in the rain, he was caught on camera bribing Jaden not to tell anyone who shot him. He also helped lie to police and first responders delaying medical care amongst many other things. He had been carrying a gun for protection according to him.
During the sentencing hearing, he was sentenced to the maximum time allotted due to the nature of the charges, and because he is a juvenile. Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice already has a tentative release date of January, only serving a small fraction of his sentence. This is not justice or rehabilitation. This is putting another criminal back on the streets of Centralia prematurely. Please sign if you disagree with releasing Jayden Smith!
