Problem
Students all over the U.S. are not getting enough sleep for their age. Most school's in Illinois start at 7:30 a.m. Students suffer from lack of sleep and are unable to give their full attention to the material being learned in school. This does not only affect student's attention but also their health. With the amount of homework, tests and, quizzes given weekly, there is little time left for students extracurricular activities without compromising their sleep schedules. Studies show that lack of sleep can cause several chronic health issues in later life. The effect of earlier starting times in schools could have a negative effect on society in the upcoming generations.

Solution
This problem can be solved by taking out unnecessary portions of wasted time throughout the school day. One large portion of time that is not needed is a 45 minute lunch period. This could be reduced to 25 minutes, which still allows students enough time to eat. 10 minutes could also be taken out of physical education and A.S.P. (study hall) and the two required elective classes. This would give schools enough time to start the school day 1 hour later, while still being just as productive during the school day.
