Competitive dance and cheer are the lowest risk sports in our state. In addition to being low risk, we are forced to adhere to the 6' distancing rule, no lifts and not touching during our routines, while sports like basketball, soccer and volleyball do not have any restrictions. With the distancing guidelines and because we never face a competitor "face-to-face", we are at extremely low risk for the spread of the virus. We are asking the IHSA to allow us an in-person option for competing at the state level, as all other sports are allowed to compete "in person", in a regular environment during their season. Please allow these ladies the chance to have a regular season, just as is being allowed for basketball, swimming, volleyball, and soccer.
