IF YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE CARRYING, YOU INTEND TO USE!

Knife crime, especially amongst teenagers, has been rising exponentially. This includes everything from pocket knives to machetes and beyond!

I have friends whose families have been touched by the horror of knife crime. They have family members who have been viciously attacked and fortunately lived. They have gone through surgery/surgeries to repair the damage that will leave life changing injuries. They will live with the fear and psychological effects, probably forever.

Many more families have a loved one ripped from them, murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unprovoked and brutal attacks seem to be an every day event.

What will it take to keep our children and grandchildren safe? When will politicians get these weapons of mass murder off our streets? Those of liberal views need to put aside their soft stance on sentencing and work together to save lives and punish the wrong doers.

Stronger sentencing is necessary, IF YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE CARRYING, YOU INTEND TO USE! There can be no excuse for carrying a weapon, how is this not seen as premeditated? 

There used to be Borstals and Detention Centres that young offenders were sent to, basically Boot camps with education and very strict on rules. The majority of these youngster came out never wanting to go back, no one can hope for 100%, but it doesn’t mean we can’t try. The “Kid glove” approach to these young offenders has not worked, they’re smart enough to know they can twist the authorities with sob stories. Let’s channel that smartness into more productive use. The excuses “they weren’t happy at home”, “they didn’t mean it” or “they’re good kids at heart”. Worst still “it’s their first offence!” would be laughable if this wasn’t so devastatingly serious. 

Then let’s teach them right from wrong in a secure place, that hopefully will send them back out into the world as productive members of the community.

All violent crime, especially involving weapons, should and must carry a term in detention/prison, absolutely NO suspended sentences. 

Please help to save a life, help to stop the violent crime that is stalking our streets, parks and playgrounds.
