Americans Of All Religious Faiths Stand With Muslims

Many of the people who emigrated from Europe to the shores of North America in the 1600s were escaping religious persecution. In their new land groups like the Quakers worked to ensure that the colonies were havens for religious freedom--that any religious group could come and practice their religion without disruption, fear or harm. Their work was embedded into the United States Constitution's First Amendment.

Religion is not a matter for the state to decide, manage or monitor.

But Donald Trump has said that he will consider requiring Muslims to register. If he does that, other religious groups must be the first in line to sign-up.

We, Americans of all faiths from around the country, stand with Muslims. Any type of government enforced religious registry, no matter what religious group it's for, is an affront to all religious groups and the first amendment.

This is not just overheated campaign rhetoric. Since Donald Trump won the election one of his advisors has discussed the registry and a major supporter went on prime time television and cited the Japanese Internment camp of WWII as legal precedent for such a registry.
