ICONIC Manyung Gallery- DEMOLITION NO WAY

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Demolition of our treasured ICON Manyung is imminent! Built in the shape of a Tuscan castle circa 1960's, the gallery showcased hundreds of items of Australian art and sculpture!

Famous artists such as Charles Billich, Terry Hadler, Jill Lewis, Janine Daddo and Carol Foster ( to name a few) got their start at this Magnificent ( if dated) architecturally bizarre ICON. Mount Eliza (indeed the Peninsula) has no other places where artists not only exhibited but up and coming locals were tutored in technique! Not heritage listed?

One should note the tribute to the original Aboriginal land owners as the name Manurong combines the 2 original tribes of this area Mayone-bulluk and the Bunurong as it's tribute . Dare we sully this blessing? Nearby Manyung fault shows the power of nature if we disrupt cultural tradition! Who would of dreamed that after sixty years of inspired leadership by great curators such as Sharon and David Wemyss-Smith and Nicole Allen could it be so lightly demolished without public consultation?Reminds me of the beautiful demolished Mornington railway station and the dreadful , ghastly, ugly South East water building ugliness in Frankston.

Hold local government accountable! The old Manyung gallery was ranked No.2 on TripAdvisor among 8 attractions in Mt Eliza. Please come along and demand public debate on such a wonderful treasure on Sunday the26 March at 2 Oclock! Will you sign the petition? Your choice! For me DEMOLITION ? NO WAY!!!!

WE MUST PRESERVE OUR ART CULTURE, AND THE EXPRESSION THAT GOES WITH IT.
