Rest in Peace Stefán Karl Stefánsson. God bless you.

22 août 2018 —

Earlier today Mr. Stefán Karl Stefánsson passed away from his battle with terminal cancer. I have only recently been broken this news via Reddit. I feel guilty, for not knowing sooner. I am at a loss for words, i am sorry.

No matter how devestating this news may be, we must now remember Stefán for his achievements. His anti bullying campaign, his fantastic acting career, and his overall kindness to name a few.

Although mourning is natural, and only shows we are human, Mr. Stefánsson would not want us to be upset. Rather he would want us to remember the better times. To smile at his career. To laugh at Robbie Rotten. To be happy for the joy he brought us, as children, or as adults.

"It’s not until they tell you you’re going to die soon that you realize how short life is. Time is the most valuable thing in life because it never comes back. And whether you spend it in the arms of a loved one or alone in a prison-cell, life is what you make of it.

Dream big"

-Stefán Karl Stefánsson, 2018

I expected to write a lot more. To be ready for this day. However after it all happened i realized i was not prepared. Nor do i think i ever would be. I truly am at a loss for words. I am sorry.

If i may quote the very first text of this post, although now altered to show the end of our journey;

"Mr. Stefánsson, in the unlikely chance you are reading this in the next life, i would again like to, for the last time, personally thank you for the incredible impact you've had on my childhood and present life."

 As for this petition, it is unlikely anything will become of it. However the fact now over 100 thousand people, 1/3 the population of Iceland, have came together to show support is incredible. I would personally like to thank the moderators of the subreddit r/dankmemes, and although i have since been banned for over a year, they have linked this petition on their pinned posts multiple times. If anyone on the subreddit could contact them and let them know i am greatful for their help in sharing, it would mean a lot.

No matter what happens, if we dont get our statue, this page will remain on change.org, no matter what happens. Not only that, but before his death, Stefán saw this petition. He saw all of our support before he left us. And that to me is a victory.

Stefán, you did not go weak. You fought a terminal illness with a 1 percent survival rate for 2 years that most people do not make past a few months. With not only that, but your entire life in mind, know that you made us all proud. And you will be an inspiration for the years to come.

The sun has set on this difficult, yet inspiring journey. Through laughter and joy, to tears and sadness, we are finally at the end. No matter how difficult it may be, we must know that nothing can change the course of life.

And although it may be difficult for me to say;

For the very last time,

God Speed, Stefan.
