April Spaniol started this petition to Ice Breakers, Orbit, Spry, Thera Breath,

Hey all! If you have dogs,  this post is for you. There are several foods that are bad for them and I'm sure you have read all about it.  Certain foods on the 'don't give your dogs' list will cause upset stomach,  diarrhea, gas, and other things that will make them uncomfortable and could even require a trip to the vet.  However,  did you know that the ingredient xylitol, which is an alternative sweetener, can kill a dog? Even the smallest amount can send you rushing to the emergency vet, spending thousands of dollars, and possibly losing your beloved fur family.

Now, I know that a lot of you aren't on board with using alternative sweeteners. You haven't cut out sugar and made the switch in your baked goods so you think this doesn't apply to you.  But many foods and non-food items contain it. Because it's better for humans than sugar, many makers of gum, candy, toothpaste, mouthwash and other items are using it now. And that can be good news for those with insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, PCOS, and diabetes. But please keep it away from your dogs!

It's very frustrating to see this ingredient in products with no warning at all. People who don't frequent the Internet and have not seen the information via other sources would not think that something as small as gum could kill their animal. But depending on their size something so small could do just that. I'm hoping you'll sign this petition to get makers of these products to include a warning not only on the product,  but on the aisles where they are contained.  Most people don't read the small print,  even though they should. Even if it is listed on the items, it needs to also be visible before the item is purchased.
Dogs don't just die after ingesting xylitol, they suffer. Please read ingredients! If you still want to purchase items with xylitol,  then lock it up tight so your dog will never get it.
