We as ICASA participants and stakeholders in the response to HIV and STIs in Africa:
Acknowledge the important and impactful work done by Condomise;
With thanks for the good organisation of ICASA 2017 generally;
Acknowledge the need for personal safety of ICASA participants;
Request that ICASA be a safe and organised space for any and stakeholders to petition, march, hold protests and disrupt in order to voice our demands for access for all to human rights for all Africans;
Request that ICASA organisers sensitize, train and prepare all safety and security personnel at future ICASA conferences to understand the need for protesting voices, and that protesting voices must not be oppressed so as to ensure the freedom of expression, and for ICASA organisers to pro-actively ensure that they are able to protest safety without silencing.
Request that Condomise, or any other loud intervention in future, be prohibited from holding interventions in the Community Village that drown out community voices, which amounts to silencing of communities's voices;
Request that a designated space or area be allocated to Condomise in this conference and all future ICASA Conferences, where they are able to continue their interventions but not to the detriment of other voices in the Community Village.
We respectfully and with thanks for a wonderful ICASA 2017, ask that in future ICASA spaces, these asks are highly considered, and implemented effectively.
