Ibbotson Street Safety Appeal

Ibbotson Street Safety Appeal
Why this petition matters

Ibbotson Street, the unsealed road between St Leonards and Indented Head, is a death trap. Local residents and visitors alike will be familiar with the unpredictable, and often treacherous conditions. Many have had accidents along this street and many more have had near misses on corrugated surfaces, in enormous pot holes, on soft shoulders of the road and attempting to pass oncoming traffic in unlit conditions.
With recent growth in the area this street has become very busy. It is technically the fastest route to Indented Head according to online map services, and so visitors are routinely directed this way not expecting to encounter such a dangerous route.
On Wednesday 3rd August 2022 another accident was only a centimetre from causing paraplegia on a father on his way to work in a 4 wheel drive Landcruiser that was built to withstand rough roads. If an experienced driver, travelling in this type of vehicle, within the speed limit, can have such a serious accident, then something has to be done about this road; imagine a Mum in a small car doing her daily run with a car full of children!
DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR A DEATH before the responsible authorities coordinate to properly seal this road.
We are appealing for support from local ratepayers, parents, grandparents, holiday-makers, visitors, and the folk of St. Leonards & Indented Heads and the surrounding regions. We are also seeking support from, and in support of, the SES volunteers, police officers, fire officers, and paramedics who are too often first on the scene to witness horrific traffic incidents that can be prevented.
All of us locals know this road is a tragedy waiting to happen and we must speak up and insist on ACTION.
Council need to ensure the many ratepayers (plus visitors and emergency personnel) using this street are provided with such roads that can stand the test of time, before a fatality does occur.
These are Beautiful towns - PLEASE HELP US.
