Petition To Cancel May 2021 IB Examinations For Haines City High School
IB Seniors at HCHS have spent over half of the diploma programme learning via online classes, which have severely negatively impacted our ability to learn. Many of the courses for which exams may occur have not had adequate class time to complete the curriculum due to this situation.
A large quantity of students are struggling both mentally and academically, as well as some physically, due to having caught the virus themselves. As such, to take exams would be to increase our mental strain as well as reduce our chances of succeeding. Additionally, COVID cases continue to occur in great amounts in our local area, and taking exams in person is highly dangerous to individuals who are, or live with people who are vulnerable to the virus.
The IBO has provided IB schools with the opportunity to select the either the examination or non-examination route through their dual assessment model. Because of this, it is up to the coordinators at our school and local administrators to decide whether or not to proceed with exams.
On account of a majority of IB seniors having spent the majority of the IB diploma programme in online learning and a high number of COVID cases occurring in our area, we encourage you to sign the petition to cancel the May 2021 IB exams for HCHS students.
