Letter to President Dr. Kim and the Academic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of Columbia College Chicago:

---

As you know, on October 27th, a gunman entered the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pennsylvania during a prayer service, killing 11 people. Since then, campuses around America have seen a dramatic rise in displays of antisemitism, parallel with similar incidents of Islamophobia, which have been on the rise for years.

It is very disappointing that the College has neither issued a response against antisemitic violence nor a call to action for ensuring a safe space for our students who identify with a religious minority. We urge the administration to publicly recognize these attacks in order to protect religious diversity at Columbia and to make all students who are religiously committed feel safe.

In addition, we as students feel as it is also necessary for the college to appoint an expert in religion to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee to advocate for religious diversity concerns.

We are proud that Columbia College is home to a vibrant Jewish community, as it is home to other vibrant communities. We want our peers of all religious persuasions to feel safe in their classrooms, on campus, and their places of worship.

We decry and stand against antisemitism. As Jews and as allies, we pledge to support our peers who are members of religious minorities and to make Columbia College a place where they feel safe.

Sincerely,

Ian Roozrokh
