As a valued member of my yachting network, I'm reaching out for signatures of the below statement to support my nomination for the ACrew environmental Award. Thank you!

It is a pleasure to support Nigel in his continued efforts as a change maker in the yachting industry. As an environmental activist he actively self educates to further his in depth knowledge of what environmental impact 'actually' means and continuously promotes mitigating and beneficial practices on board and in the communities where the yacht operates to tackle the operational environmental challenges that face the yachting industry. Peer to peer learning, educational resources, and implementation of on board strategies, are some of the ways Nigel inspires to adopt a more conscious approach to the operation of a yacht. Environmental impact goes deeper than what comes out of the exhaust, although critical, there is opportunity to identify that procurement policies reduces waste and footprint, that crew retention reduces the amount crew flights, having a laser printer on board facilitates the option of laser printing a part, and eliminates the need for shipment. Energy and fuel management, waste management, product data analysis, specification and operation of tenders and toys, water consumption, to name a few, were areas where Nigel would identify opportunity to reduce consumption, switch to an alternative product or implement policy, resulting in mitigating the impact of the yacht, and was a continuous improvement process. 

Interestingly, through Nigel's efforts and inspiration as a leader, the crew were empowered to problem solve and come come up with solutions of their own. That in turn translated into a motivated crew, a crew who were empowered with a sense of purpose that they were part of a movement to create a 'Smarter Yachting Experience' for themselves, owners and guests.

It is evident that Nigel has dedicated his lifetime in Yachting as a purposeful leader, so much so that he has created a company to facilitate leaders and managers to make SMARTER, impactful decisions for people and planet. He sees an opportunity to lead the transformation to a more sustainable yachting experience in every decision we make, every action we take to ensure the yachting and wider marine industry will be enjoyed for generations to come.

He has a vision to evolve yachting into a cleaner greener industry, firmly grounded with a sense of purpose, to create a 'Better Yachting Industry' - one with a focus on safeguarding the environment.

Based on the contributions Nigel has made to mitigate the environmental impact of the yachting industry I offer my vote to recognise his efforts with the ACrew Environmental award.
