The Psychiatric field has to update itself to fit into new models of medicine, and draw from modern science to supplement traditional methods of diagnosing and treating mental illness. These novel treatments can help sufferers afflicted with schizophrenia, anhedonia, depression, anxiety, ADHD, Bipolar, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), intrusive thoughts and OCD images and autism. This petition is a call for action and we want to drive as many people to sign this by APRIL 2nd, 2018.
Medical technology and researchers must prioritize finding ways to diagnose and treat patients with schizophrenia, depression, ADHD, Bipolar, anxiety and OCD. 1 in every 200 children has the disorder OCD. Current treatment, while somewhat effective in managing some symptoms, have unwanted side effects and limited efficacy. The root of these illnesses and the ultimate cure for them are also elusive.
As recent mass tragedies have highlighted the need for mental health is not just a matter of public health but safety.
This is a matter of public interest and must be addressed by the federal government. Incentives funding and encouragement from the government would go a long way towards funding, incentives and finding a cure not just a TEMPORARY solution!

Youth mental health is worsening. Rates of youth with severe depression increased from 5.9% in 2012 to 8.2% in 2015. Even with severe depression, 76% of youth are left with no or insufficient treatment
most Americans still lack access to care. 56% of American adults with a mental illness do not receive treatment. Even in Maine, the state with the best access, 41.4% of adults with a mental illness do not receive treatment.
1 in 5 Adults have a mental health condition. That's over 40 million Americans who have depression and more than the populations of New York and Florida combined!
There is a serious mental health workforce shortage. In states with the lowest workforce, there is up 6 times the individuals to only 1 mental health professional. This includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and psychiatric nurses combined.
Worldwide, schizophrenia is associated with considerable disability and may affect educational and occupational performance.
