Tiger Hawkins started this petition to Hythe Town Council

Hythe has never been a welcoming place for its LGBT residents, however it has become less so since an incident involving the proposition to fly the pride flag for pride month during June. While there was a vote in favour of flying the flag within the town council, a member of the council locked the entrance leading up to the flag pole and refused to fly the pride flag. Furthermore, after the people in favour of flying the flag found a way to fly it, when they tried to take it down they discovered the rope had been cut. This is wrong, and something needs to change. Not only are there many LGBT residents in Hythe, a large quantity of LGBT people in Hythe are youths. The actions of the minority in the Hythe Town Council need to be punished and apologised for, and something needs to be done to show Hythe's acceptance for its own people. Appreciation of  the struggles that the LGBT community has faced for centuries in order to receive basic human rights should not be put down to a vote conducted by straight people who have never experienced the discrimination. Many LGBT people have expressed their sadness and anger towards the situation, and still nothing is being done. The voices of the LGBT community need to be heard, not just in Hythe, but everywhere. We need to prevent more lives being lost to this injustice, and protect our own people.
