SAVE Highams Playing fields

This petition had 1,276 supporters

A recent Cabinet decision commissioned a feasibility study into Highams Playing Fields being leased to the Accrington Stanley Community Trust. Even though it has recently had a large amount of Public Money spent on improving the fields.  Accrington Stanley community trust propose to develop the site it include 3g/4g pitches, a sports hub, car park, flood lights and a perimeter fence. In fact, doing this directly goes against the 2012 Cabinet Report putting forward Highams Playing Fields as a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee site and therefore being protected by Fields in Trust. This would mean, a number of local residents being affected, in many ways. Also the playing fields access would be greatly reduced to a number of community users. For many years Highams Playing Fields has been a focal point of the community, from children using it as a base for playing games, including "jumpers for goalpost"games of football, to dog walkers, or just people enjoying the only green space in the area, it's well used daily. We, SAVE Highams Playing Fields committee, intend to fight this proposal using the following aims and abjectives:

To prevent the loss of the grass playing fields and preserve for future generations.

To prevent the loss of recreational use and preserve the green space for the future.

To prevent increased noise, traffic, light pollution for local residents.

To ensure continued usage for all regardless of sporting interests, age, ability or past time.

To keep the fields open with no restrictions on access.
