Hyndburn Conservatives started this petition to Hyndburn Borough Council & Hyndburn Leisure.

Hyndburn Leisure was formed in 2001 by Hyndburn Borough Council as a way of delivering its statutory duties of providing health and wellbeing as charities can apply for external funding that local government are excluded from.

Over recent years Hyndburn Council has reduced its grant to Hyndburn leisure with a view to not providing any support for the running costs in the near future and, whilst Hyndburn Leisure has been able to keep up with the ongoing repairs and maintenance of Mercer Hall baths they are not in a position to replace the Plant Machinery for the pool which is desperately needed.

The Plant Machinery is many years past its useable lifespan and It is the responsibility of Labour-controlled Hyndburn Council to replace under the terms of the lease.  We have proven they are unwilling to invest in this Plant-Machinery. Has a consequence of this the baths may need to close in the near future or even sooner if the costs to repair the pool is substantial.

Hyndburn Conservatives put forward an amendment in this year's Capital Budget, that would have seen £1,000,000 provided for Mercer Hall Leisure Centre so that instead of makeshift repairs, the pool facilities will be re-created and appropriate disabled access to the pool provided, which would increase its use dramatically.

This money would come from the Capital receipt of Lyndon Playing fields which generated more than £2.3 million.

We petition Hyndburn Borough Council to use this Money to replace the plant machinery and make adequate adjustments for disabled access to secure Mercer Halls long term future of having a pool.
