We have been advised that 5 tower blocks will be built in Whitehawk in much loved wildlife land between Whitehawk and Brighton Racecourse. As well as the impact on the community and wildlife in a much loved surroundings we are concerned by the impact of this project and feel a lot of thought needs to be put into local infrastructures before it goes ahead.

We want support to protect the area and the community. We want to see practical affordable housing but this project raise a lot of questions. As a community we need to pull together our questions to take to the next consultation.

Whitehawk holds a lot of history within Whitehawk Hill and the surrounding area. This project will destroy part of this area that has been protected for many years. The Council itself made this promise on their pages about the area.

The area in question is a nature reserve and this will be destroyed if this project goes ahead. Wildlife will need to be removed and this causes immense disruption to them and their habitat.

This Project has 217 in its initial proposal. This means there will be an impact on local infrastructures such as Drs places, school places and transport. It’s a huge influx of population on an already struggling and in an area of poverty.

Parking in this area is already a struggle as well as traffic with part of Swanborough Drive and the proposed entrance being one way traffic. Currently dustbin vans have issues with the road provision. How will the 100 or more cars the proposal has in it be accommodated when we have seen an increase on dangerous driving in the area, limited spaces for on road parking. Traffic congestion coming out of this area will be a huge issue on a one road in, one road out system.

This project does not offer adequate and affordable social housing for families and the needs of the local area. To be in with a chance of renting you will have to meet certain criteria meaning it may not lower the current council wait list.

No provision has been made for the loss to local residents, their community area and the general feeling and welfare.
