During the November lockdown, the UK government refused to close schools and adamently stuck to the policy that schools will stay open and exams will carry on for the 2021 exam season, despite the numerous risks to the livelihood and safety of students. The pandemic is still just as bad, and, unsurprisingly, the numbers of COVID cases in the Battle and Bexhill constituency is still well above national averages and is rising steadily.

In forcing students to remain at school, the government is placing the lives of young people and those in their households at risk, and, considering mose young people cannot yet vote, we feel as if we have little to no say in the matter.

Furthermore, the fact that GCSE and A Level students are having to revise as if they have fully normal examinations is placing unnecessary stress not only on students, but also on teachers. This is not to mention the fact that students from england who are set to be doing their A Levels will be competing against students from Scotland and Wales (who have already had their exams cancelled) for university places.

Ultimately, if the exam students of 2020 were able to get teacher assessed grades in a matter of weeks with little to no preparation time, then the students of 2021 should be able to have these centre assessed grades, considering both the exam boards and the government have around 6 months of preparation time before exam season.

Lets give the young people a voice and stand against the blatant disregard of the government for our both mental and physical wellbeing that these exams are causing us.
